About
This film was created during my six-month internship at Trickstudio Lutterbeck in Cologne. It depicts how the 90-year-old vision of an animated film by Felix Nussbaum and Michael Loewen was brought to completion. Felix Nussbaum, a Jewish painter, was murdered during the Nazi era. The film was featured in a special broadcast of 'Sendung mit der Maus' on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, aired on WDR.
Synopsis
In the imaginative story, Pit and Peggs go on a thrilling drive through the mountains in their car, all in a dream. Along the way, they encounter not only other drivers but also a giraffe, living gas pumps, and sunflowers – and in the end, they even win a prize.
Color Design
For the film's color concepts, I drew inspiration from the paintings of Felix Nussbaum, particularly focusing on his works that feature vibrant, playful contrasts.
Set Design
The set design was intended to incorporate elements from Felix Nussbaum’s sketches while also translating them into a modern style. To achieve this, I drew on the recurring motifs of rounded and angular hills, flowers, trees, and clouds, and used them to create the final sets.

Character Design (Cars)
The design of the cars was also meant to reflect the style of the artist’s sketches as well as the character designs by Jana Rische. I explored a variety of different car models and experimented with how they could be transformed into expressive characters. In the process, I also realized that cars in general can serve as a great source of inspiration for character design.

Animation
Here are two sample scenes that I animated in Toon Boom Harmony.
Intro and Outro Design
The logo for the story was designed to echo the shapes of the hills from the film, while the chunky, playful lettering reflects the fun and lighthearted nature of the content.
